Most teams price a validator by the server bill. The real total cost of ownership is dominated by engineering time (setup, upgrades, monitoring, on-call) and by the risk carried by the stake itself: slashing, double-sign incidents and downtime penalties. Use this calculator to estimate what self-hosting actually costs your team per month.

What does running your own validator really cost per month?

How to read the result

Hardware is the visible cost, but for most funded teams it is under 20% of true TCO. A validator that needs 40 engineer-hours a month at a $75/h loaded cost adds $3,000/month in labour alone, and a 1% annual incident risk on a $500k stake is another ~$400/month of expected loss. That is why teams compare self-hosting against a managed operation or, at minimum, get their setup audited before scaling stake.
